19 Member States Support GC Resolution on Innovative Nuclear Technology

The 55th IAEA General Conference, in passing a resolution on “Strengthening the Agency’s activities related to nuclear science, technology and applications”, noted INPRO’s activities and commended the Director General and the Secretariat for their work in response to earlier GC resolutions, in particular the results achieved to date within INPRO.
Nineteen Member States — the highest number of countries ever - supported the resolution concerning INPRO, which also includes a number of recommendations concerning the role of innovations in in developing sustainable nuclear energy systems and future activities. The GC also encouraged the IAEA and interested Member States to review the INPRO methodology in the light of the Fukushima accident and by taking into account results of nuclear energy system assessments (NESAs) performed by Member States so far.
