The USA amends its 1954 atomic energy law and enacts the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Act, setting restrictions on exports of nuclear technology and requiring full-scope IAEA safeguards. The IAEA launches a series of workshops, known as INTOR, on the concept of a large, "next generation" fusion reactor.
