Mr. Abdul Samad Minty is Deputy Director General of South Africa's Department of Foreign Affairs and South Africa's representative to the IAEA Board of Governors since 1995. Mr. Minty is also Chairperson of the South African Council for the Non-Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction and the Council for Space Affairs. He is Member of the Board of the South African National Atomic Energy Corporation and Representative of the Department of Foreign Affairs on his country's National Conventional Arms Control Committee.

Mr. Minty has occupied important positions, both within the Department of Foreign Affairs and at international settings. He has written extensively on Southern Africa for the UN and various apartheid and solidarity movements. He has attended and represented his country in various international conferences, including several IAEA General Conferences and Review Conferences on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Mr. Minty has a Masters Degree in International Relations and a Senior Research Fellow from the International Peace Research Institute in Oslo.
