| The developing world has increasing interest in the use of nuclear energy in the fields of heath, medicine and agriculture, which is why it’s particularly important to ensure that there is a good co-operation between the Agency and developing countries. Through this co-operation, the implementation of joint projects have increased during the past year. He said that last year also was marked by greater efforts in developing a cancer research center. Another research center was also opened during the visit of the Director General in charge of technical co-operation in April this year. He said, that the Sudanese nuclear energy agency has set up together with the IAEA a number of training courses and workshops dealing with nuclear safety and radiation as well as waste management. His delegation has great interest in an expansion of the IAEA Board, in order to meet the legitimate demands of developing countries to have a better and more equitable representation in the decision-making process. The Agency has played a very effective role in developing countries in the transfer of technology and ensuring the peaceful use of nuclear energy as well as in helping them to train personnel. He urged continued support of The AFRA arrangement for regional cooperation. He closed by saying that Sudan is prepared to cooperate with the Agency to meet challenges and find solutions to problems, in particular those related to illicit trafficking of nuclear materials. | ||||
