He opened by stating that nuclear techniques demonstrate their importance to the economic and social development of his country. He noted with appreciation the visit of the Director General May 1999 and welcomed Angola and Honduras as new members of the IAEA. He went on and described the new National Centre of Radiological Protection and its availability for the Africa continent and Arab world. Morocco also has created a new national nuclear safety group to control national nuclear projects and to issue regulations. He closed by noting an agreement concluded with China related to projects for the desalination of potable water using nuclear technologies.
