| He emphasized the importance of water to his country and to all States, especially in the Middle East region where water problems are acute. He expressed strong support for the IAEA’s activities related to hydrology for the assessment and development of water resources, and for nuclear technologies and applications contributing to national and global development goals and objectives. He added that the Agency should intensify its cooperation in these areas. He described technical cooperation as the link of communication between Member States and the Agency Secretariat, and said Lebanon welcomes the new strategy for technical cooperation. His country hopes that the strategy will strengthen cooperation with partners and specialized agencies at national, regional, and global levels. Regarding Board composition, Lebanon believes that expansion is urgently needed to ensure more equitable representation of the geographical areas. Reviewing national programmes, he said his country has set up a framework for supporting activities in areas such as waste management and for training specialists in various fields. In closing, he emphasized the importance of having all States accept comprehensive safeguards and appealed to the IAEA to take full measures toward these aims. | ||||
