As one of the least developed countries, Ethiopia's priority is meeting the minimum requirements beyond the poverty line for its people. The speaker said that his country is embarking on a few impact bearing programs on the basis of the Country Program Framework (CPF). Under this framework, the Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) for controlling and eradicating tsetse flies is changing attitudes toward livestock productivity. Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Africa and Mali have all shown interest in the promotion of the use of SIT to tackle tsetse and trypanosomosis problem in the continent. The speaker noted that Ethiopia has upgraded the National Radiation Protection Authority to the optimum level possible. Ethiopia has become a strong supporter of the Pelindaba Treaty, establishing a nuclear-weapon-free zone in Africa, and is also a strong endorser and participant in approaches for technical cooperation in nuclear fields among developing countries.
