Paraguay, Ms. Maria Cristina Acosta Alvarez, Acting Resident Representative to the IAEA:
She emphasized the benefits of technical cooperation, particularly citing projects in areas of animal health and agriculture,
including feed supplement programmes and the use of radiotracers in groundwater studies. She further noted her country's participation
in the interregional project on strengthening radiation protection infrastructures, and said that regulations are being drafted in
accordance with the IAEA's international Basis Safety Standards. Also being implemented is a project for the treatment of radium
sources as part of their safe disposal. Turning to regional programmes, notably through ARCAL, she mentioned training courses in the
field of food irradiation and that efforts are being made to harmonize associated regulations in the region. Also held was a workshop for
industrialists interested in the technology. In closing, she expressed support for the work of INIS, noting that a number of national
institutes are actively involved in the extensive nuclear information database operations
