Strengthening Nuclear Verification - from Concept to Implementation

Scientific Programme The Safeguards Scientific Afternoon will center on the core responsibilities of the Department of Safeguards: Implementation of safeguards as set out in Comprehensive Safeguards Agreements and the Protocol; the new elements of the strengthened system and the tools available for the inspector to carry out the increased responsibilities. Additional responsibilities given to the Agency by assignment by the Security Council or by Member States widen the scope of responsibility of the Agency. The experiences in carrying out such responsibilities and the prospects for future implementation of such assignments will be addressed. The seminar will aim at giving the audience a vision of how new elements of safeguards are, and can be, implemented under different legal schemes.
