APPROVAL OF THE APPOINTMENT OF THE DIRECTOR GENERAL Report by the Board of Governors

On 28 September 1993 the General Conference approved the appointment of Dr. Hans Blix, the present Director General of the Agency, which the Board of Governors had made.^1/ The period of appointment will end on 30 November 1997. Dr. Blix has indicated that he is not seeking a further term.
On 5 June 1997, the Board proceeded to appoint Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei to the post of Director General, to serve for four years from 1 December 1997 to 30 November 2001. Pursuant to Article VII.A of the Statute, the Board requests the Conference to approve this appointment and accordingly recommends adoption of the draft resolution set out below.

APPROVAL OF THE APPOINTMENT OF THE DIRECTOR GENERAL

The General Conference,

(a) Having considered the question of the appointment of the Director General,

(b) Having further considered the recommendation of the Board of Governors on this matter contained in document GC(41)/5,

Approves, in accordance with Article VII of the Statute, the appointment of Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei as the Director General from 1 December 1997 to 30 November 2001.
