Forty-first regular session Item 6 of the provisional agenda (GC(41)/1)

On 22 September 1997, the Board of Governors adopted the draft resolution set out below recommending to the General Conference that it confer on Dr. Blix the title of "Director General Emeritus of the International Atomic Energy Agency".

The General Conference,

Recognizing the central role that Dr. Hans Blix has played during the past 16 years in guiding the International Atomic Energy Agency and strengthening the contribution made by it to the promotion of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and to the cause of international peace and security,

1. Expresses its deep and sincere appreciation to Dr. Blix for the vigour, creativity and dedication to the objectives and principles enshrined in the Agency's Statute which he has brought to the Agency during his distinguished and successful tenure as Director General; and

2. Decides to confer on him the title of "Director General Emeritus of the International Atomic Energy Agency".
