Plan for Producing Potable Water Economically
Report by the Director General to the Board of Governors and to the General Conference
Progress after the June 1996 meeting of the Board of Governors
Since the June 1996 meeting of the Board of Governors, new developments summarized
below, have taken place.
- - The Options Identification Programme (OIP) has now been completed and the report has
been forwarded for publication. In addition, a technical document on the status of the Small and
Medium Reactors (SMRs) containing up-to-date technical information on SMRs has been completed
and published as an Agency TECDOC-881.
- - The Agency has received an additional US$ 60,000.00 as extrabudgetary funds, from Canada
and the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya. Another US$ 50,000.00 as extrabudgetary funds is pledged as of
June 1996 by the Republic of Korea.
- - An Advisory Group Meeting will be convened by the Agency in October 1996 in order to
examine in detail tasks proposed in the 1997/98 Programme and Budget, suggestions from the June
meeting of the Board of Governors and the 40th regular session of the General Conference, as well
as findings of the OIP. The topics to be covered would include:
- Identification of user requirements
- Institutional aspects
- Steps toward implementation of nuclear desalination programme
- Further qualification of economic competitiveness
- Development of infrastructures
- Public acceptance
