Ansar Parvez

Dr. Parvez obtained a Masters Degree in Physics and Nuclear Technology in Pakistan and earned a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, USA, in 1977.

He started his career as a teacher in the training institute of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, and spent two years (1982-84) as Visiting Faculty Member at Purdue University, USA.

For 18 years, he worked for the Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (KANUPP) in different capacities, including as Head of the training centre associated with the plant, and in the plant's Technical Division.

He then moved to head the Chashma Nuclear Power Project in its initial phase, from contract negotiations to "first concrete pour".

For two years, Dr. Parvez was also Member of the Atomic Energy Commission looking after the Research and Development and training programmes, as well as the nuclear medicine and agriculture sectors.

Currently, Dr. Parvez is Chairman of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission and represents Pakistan on the IAEA Board of Governors.

Dr. Parvez has more than 30 publications to his credit. In the course of his career he contributed to and managed several conferences at a national and international level. He travelled widely and has an in-depth understanding of the technical, political and economic issues related to peaceful applications of nuclear technology.
