9 May 2008 | IAEA Director General Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei was presented today with a comprehensive glossary of nuclear terms translated from English into Chinese by Donghui Li, Head of the IAEA´s Chinese Translation Section.

Entitled the English - Chinese Glossary of the IAEA, the work contains over 400 pages of 17,000 terms translated into Chinese from the original English. Its use is expected to help in avoiding cross-lingual misunderstanding and clarify discussions.

The glossary comprises part of the IAEA´s continuing efforts to establish and maintain a leadership role in multilingual nuclear terminology. In addition to the Chinese glossary, the IAEA maintains a nuclear terminology database of over 8,000 edited terms translated into all six UN languages.

Dr. ElBaradei expressed appreciation to Mr. Li and his staff for their work in assembling the glossary in a small ceremony at IAEA Headquarters.
